This website has been founded by proponents for changes to the current laws and rules governing hunting with hounds in Virginia. Its purpose is to provide a forum where the public can discuss, obtain, and exchange information on this very important topic.

The VDGIF is in the process of surveying Virginians with an interest in hound hunting in order to assess current problems and identify potential solutions. Recently, VDGIF has released a Technical Report outlining the basic facts of hound hunting. It discusses the problems and issues identified to date as well as methods other states have used to correct such problems. However, the report does not address the changes that will be necessary to solve Virginia’s problems with hound hunting. The good news is that, through the survey process, VDGIF is willing to listen to suggestions in this regard.

This is where you, the public, come in. If you're a hunter, land owner, camper, hiker, or participate in any outdoor sports, you should participate in the survey as what comes of this process will affect you! Presently, the survey is in the final stages, so you should act quickly. On the other hand, if you choose not to participate in the process, nothing will change. This is a result that is not acceptable to many of us in the Commonwealth.

There are several methods of participation available for people who do want change and will participate in the process. They include email the Stakeholder Advisory Committee houndhuntingsac@vt.edu , send a letter to your local newspaper, attend one of the scheduled public meetings, and write your state legislators.

In order to support informed and considered participation in the survey and any additional processes concerning this important issue, we have founded this forum where you can learn about and discuss these matters. We invite you to take the first step towards change and join the discussion on this forum by registering now.

If you so choose, you can participate anonymously and although you do need a valid e-mail address to register in this forum, all member information is kept strictly confidential. On that you have our word.

Thank you,

VHHR
